IL-6 is a multifunctional cytokine that triggers inflammatory signaling (PKC, cAMP/PKA, calcium), promotes T-cell differentiation, B-cell proliferation, and immunoglobulin production. Expressed by immune and stromal cells, IL-6 receptors are on lymphoid, myeloid, and hepatic cells. It’s implicated in Kaposi’s sarcoma and multiple myeloma.
